Peak Design’s new wireless charging stand pulls double duty, literally
The three new charging accessories from Peak Design hit the high notes, like (dual) Qi2 wireless charging and wired fast charging without bulky bricks.
Last year at CES, Peak Design gave us a sneak preview of its upcoming accessory lineup. Obviously, the company is known for its premium travel bags and accessories, and they make some awesome gear. But they have mobile accessories, too, and the latest release looks pretty cool.
All three new products are charging accessories that work with Android. More specifically, they support the right protocols, like Qi2 25W wireless charging and 65W fast wired charging.
In fact, the 2-in-1 Mobile Charging Station supports dual, simultaneous Qi2 charging. In essence, it’s an adjustable charging stand that either lays flat or props up for a more traditional experience. Premium build materials like aluminum are used for the base, top cradle, and stem. There’s a recessed USB-C port for the adapter you’ll need to source yourself, and a secondary USB-C output port for charging a third device.
To get full power from the 2-in-1 Mobile Charging Station, you’ll need at minimum a 75W charging adapter and cable. The box includes a 100W cable, but charging two devices at 25W wirelessly takes a lot of power. Still, it’s pretty cool that it packs two Qi2 pads, not just one paired with a slower coil.
If that’s not your use case, a 65W charger is enough to power one pad at the full 25W. The absolute minimum required power to charge anything is 45W, Peak Design says on its website.
That might be why Peak Design also launched a slim 65W travel charger. It’s a fantastic little charger that slips into a tech pouch or backpack without much trouble. I carry a slim 65W charger wherever I go, and this easily fits the bill for portability.
It has two USB-C ports. Only one is rated for 65W, and if both are in use, you’re either getting 30W/30W or 45W/20W output. Still, I don’t demand much from a travel charger, and 65W is plenty fast enough to charge a MacBook Air or Pixel 11 within the hour.
The other option is a slim battery. Peak Design also launched a Qi2 Kickstand Travel Battery, capable of 25W wireless fast charging as well. It’s rated for 5,000mAh. Because of the kickstand that wraps around and acts as a frame for the charger, it isn’t as slim as some of the batteries we’re seeing recently. Still, I wouldn’t call it “thick” by any means.
It’s solidly built and has a really nice faux leather finish on both sides, accented by status LEDs on the bottom edge. It also sits really nicely on the Pixel 11 I used it on, which is a point of failure for some. This one feels really nice to use.
