Ghost Of Yotei Expansion Coming This Fall, Will Add New Story Missions And Roguelike Mode
PS5-exclusive open-world samurai simulator Ghost of Yōtei is getting an expansion that will add a new location and survival mode to the game. On top of that, a free update will also arrive, adding some requested quality-of-life improvements and a new screensaver mode.
On August 12, PlayStation and Sucker Punch announced Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara, a new paid expansion that will be released on October 1. The expansion will cost players who already own the game $15. There will also be a new $70 version of the game available to purchase, Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition. This will contain the original game, all deluxe edition content, and the upcoming expansion.
According to Sucker Punch, Echoes of Sekigahara is a new narrative adventure split between the past and the present of the main game’s timeline. Players will play as Atsu during the present and explore a new “unseen valley” where a deadly gang of warriors known as the Vipers is hiding out. Meanwhile, during flashbacks, players will experience Atsu’s time during the Battle of Sekigahara and witness a “key moment in her life before she returned home for her quest for vengeance.” Sucker Punch promises new weapons, armor, cosmetic options, and more in this expansion.
Also included in Echoes of Sekigahara is a new single-player combat survival mode, which Sucker Punch calls its “spin on a roguelike.” In this mode, players will accept bounties to start new runs and take down enemies to earn perks and unlock new playable characters. The studio says it will have more to share about the expansion’s content in the near future.
Sucker Punch confirmed that all owners of Ghost of Yōtei, even those who don’t buy the expansion, will get a free update on October 1 that will add a new “Beauty of Yōtei” mode that turns the game into a “screensaver-like” experience that you can put on your TV in the background. Players can also expect new quality-of-life features, including what sounds like a transmog option for armor sets. This is cool and all, but I’m sad to see the game’s wonderful online mode isn’t getting some big expansion as part of this October update. Dang.
“Thank you again to everyone for an amazing year since Ghost of Yōtei launched,” said Sucker Punch. “We’ll have more to share about Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara as we get closer to launch on October 1, so be sure to follow our social media channels and keep an eye out!”
