Spotify rolling out ‘User Notes’ and ‘Running Mode’ features on Android – here’s what they do
Spotify is introducing two new features this week including a “Running Mode” that can automatically match songs and playlists to the pace of your workout, as well as “User Notes” which let you leave notes throughout your library to refer to later.
Spotify’s “Running Mode” will generate playlists of songs that match the vibe of your workout. Specifically, the intensity level, beats per minute, and type of music. Spotify says users can customize “workout type (like interval, steady, or pyramid), duration, Beats per Minute, and what type of music you’re in the mood for,” with the app then generating playlists to match your workout.
“Running Mode” can also incorporate “optional audio cues” to guide you through a run.
These are available via the Spotify Fitness Hub for Premium subscribers in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden – but only on iOS for now.
Update 8/18: Spotify is now rolling out “Running Mode” on Android, but the feature is still limited to specific regions.
Spotify has also announced that its “User Notes” feature, detailed below, is evolving into “Playlist Notes” that will feature notes from the platform’s playlist editors.
Rolling out to all users is a new “User Notes” feature which Spotify says is like adding a “a personal caption” to each track. The note shows up underneath the track in your library and playlists, with other users able to see the notes if they’re in a playlist shared by the note’s author.
Spotify says that “User Notes” are rolling out to both free and Premium users, though only in “select markets.” Users need to be aged 16+ to use the feature.
