Destiny 2 might be back, but the Bungie Store is going away
Bungie is 'building a new home for our merchandise that's more aligned with our current goals and vision,' and for some reason that means the old home has to go away.

After more than a decade of serving our players through the Bungie Store, we are retiring the current storefront for Bungie and Destiny related merchandise on October 19. We are building a new home for our merchandise that's more aligned with our current goals and vision. We'll…October 2, 2026
That's the latest move from Bungie, which recently un-cancelled Destiny 2 following a massive fan backlash over the decision to put the game in maintenance mode. It seems odd to me—I would think that now, with the seeming rebirth of Destiny 2 at hand, is exactly the time you'd want that storefront up and operational. Regardless of the need for a new storefront, taking the old one offline for months while it's being made feels counterproductive.
Also interesting is that the Marathon storefront, which lives on its own subdomain, is not being taken offline while the "new home" is being built. They look effectively identical, so I have no idea what to make of that.
At a guess, I'd say the most likely outcome here is that the Bungie Store will be integrated into Sony's own storefront—rather like Bungie's own absorption into Sony after the wheels came off the whole "independent subsidiary" thing.
Some followers hope that will lead to lower shipping costs, which would be a positive outcome of sorts, although Sony taking control of the whole endeavor could mean a more limited selection of stuff going forward. That's entirely speculative, but that's also the whole Bungie/Destiny 2 situation in a nutshell: Something is happening, but exactly what we just cannot pin down at this point.
What we can pin down is that the Bungie Store as we know it will close on October 19, while digital downloads and emblem codes will remain accessible until December 31. Get 'em while you can.
