Google says fix for Android Auto’s missing signal icon is rolling out, and it actually is [U]
After weeks of back and forth, Google has officially confirmed a fix is rolling out for Android Auto’s missing signal icon.
The corner of every Android Auto display is meant to show your phone’s battery status, the time, a number of notifications, and your phone’s current cellular connection status.
While it hasn’t been consistent or fully widespread, many have found the cellular signal icon on Android Auto vanishing off and on for several weeks now. Recent updates have seemed to fix the issue for many, but now Google is confirming a fix has been made. In a comment on Reddit, a Google representative explains:
We’re aware of reports about the missing cellular signal, and we’re actually currently rolling out a fix that should hopefully address this issue! The fix isn’t widely available yet, though, so it may take some time to reach your device – if you want to receive it sooner, though, you can enroll in the Android Auto beta
The Android Auto beta program, notably, is full at the moment, but you can sideload updates (at your own risk).
Android Auto 17.8 seems to deliver the fix, at least in part, and is now rolling out via the stable track.
Update 10/16: Google first confirmed the signal bar fix was rolling out earlier this month and, in the past day or two, it seems to have widely rolled out as more user reports have popped up, one of which points at Android Auto 17.8 as the reason. It’s still not back for everyone, it seems, but most users finally have this long-running bug fixed.
