Prime Minister swaps dispatch box for Gogglebox
Andy Burnham is joined by Liverpool City Region mayor Steve Rotheram on the show
Andy Burnham is to appear in a special edition of Channel 4 hit show Gogglebox.
The prime minister will be joined by Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram for a celebrity edition of the programme in support of Stand Up 4 Cancer, the campaign the broadcaster runs with charity Cancer Research UK.
Rotheram said he was a huge supporter of the cause, but had also agreed to take part because he did not want his friend to end up looking like "Billy No-Mates" on the Downing Street sofa alone.
The special Gogglebox edition airs on Channel 4 at 21:05 BST on Friday.
The long-running TV series, narrated by The Royle Family's Craig Cash, has viewers watching other viewers watching the week's telly, often to comic and heartwarming effect.
The celebrity version of the show has previously featured the likes of musician Ed Sheeran, actress Joanna Lumley and presenter Maya Jama.
Appearing on the edition with the prime minister will be comedian Joe Lycett and Sugababes singers Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy.
A Channel 4 spokesperson said nothing would be "off limits as Gogglebox continues to celebrate the simple joy of watching television together".
"They'll be sharing hilarious, honest and often unexpected reactions to the week's biggest television moments as well as poignant stories all in aid of Stand Up To Cancer," they added.
