Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales spike amid iPhone Duo release and ‘crackgate’ debacle
The iPhone Duo’s tumultuous debut seems to have some buyers looking to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 instead, as sales spiked in the week following Apple’s release.
The release of iPhone Duo was October 23 and, according to The Korea Herald, that same week is when sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 spiked.
The specifics here are that sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 went up by 20% in Korea from October 23 through October 29. Exact numbers weren’t shared, but it does show a trend in Samsung’s foldable getting more attention in the wake of Apple’s first attempt at the form factor. In the days following Apple’s September announcement of the Duo, interest in Galaxy Z Fold 8 went up as well.
There are any number of reasons why customers might be turning their attention to Samsung’s device. It could be the continued sales that make the Fold 8 a better deal overall, especially in Korea where the Fold 8 is considerably more affordable compared to the Duo. Other factors at play could include the messy implementation of unoptimized apps in Apple’s software, or even the iPhone Duo’s “crackgate” debacle that left a rough first impression, as a number of buyers were left with broken inner displays due to an apparent manufacturing error. There’s no evidence either way here yet, but there are plenty of potential reasons.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 is currently available for as low as $1,599, with Samsung rumored to be investing more heavily in the new form factor in 2027.
