The Ai1600TS earns its position on technical merit. The CWT platform is tuned to an excellent standard, components are sourced from top-tier manufacturers, and the USB-C interface delivers real-time monitoring and basic power management. Titanium efficiency is confirmed at both input voltages, and build quality is excellent throughout. With the retail price of around $500, however, the price is undoubtedly high, and buyers will need to assign concrete value to the Afterburner integration and Safeguard+ ecosystem before the numbers make sense.

MSI has built its PSU lineup steadily over the past several years, and the new MPG Ai1600TS PCIE5 currently sits at the top of that stack. At 1600 watts and with a retail price of about $500, it targets a narrow buyer profile: builders running power-hungry multi-GPU workstations, extreme overclockers, and system integrators who treat protection features as infrastructure rather than marketing copy. At this price and wattage, the bar is high, and a respectable label on the box is not enough.
The platform, as with MSI's MAG series, comes from Channel-Well Technology (CWT), a Taiwanese OEM with a long and well-regarded history across mid-to-top-tier PSU design. Regardless, at this price range, even CWT’s involvement is a baseline assurance and not a selling point by itself. What matters here is the specification level MSI has chosen, and the Ai1600TS is built to a meaningfully higher standard than the MAG units. The distinction begins with the USB-C connector on the rear of the unit, which is the feature MSI has built its entire MPG marketing strategy around. Several PSU manufacturers have been trying to combat the plague of damaged 12V-2x6 connectors due to overcurrent and overheating – MSI’s approach, the GPU Safeguard/Safeguard+, fundamentally is per-wire current monitoring on the GPU connector. The outer packaging is a large, sturdy cardboard box with a blue and purple color scheme and a photograph of the unit on the front. Inside, the unit sits in a synthetic pouch surrounded by foam inserts on both ends. The presentation is confident and visually excessive, hinting at the visuals of the unit itself.
The bundle is unexpectedly Spartan for a unit at this price. Mounting screws, an AC power cable with a NEMA C19 connector, and a few cable ties are what you get. No additional accessories, not even cable ties – with such a price tag we believe that buyers have every right to expect more.
Setting the frugal bundle aside, cable quality is outstanding. All cables are fully modular, all-black from connector to tip, and use MSI's “embossed jacket” wires, which give them a scaled, textured appearance. Cable combs are preinstalled on all cables except the SATA and PATA lines. The connector count is genuinely strong even for this power class: two 12V-2x6 connectors and seven 6+2 pin PCI Express connectors. Five of the PCIe connectors arrive on individual cables, while the sixth cable carries two 6+2 connectors in a piggyback arrangement. Having two 12V-2x6 connectors is the minimum we expect on a 1600W unit and the Ai1600TS did not disappoint. Both 12V-2x6 connectors use a dual-color design with a yellow lower section that vanishes entirely once the connector is fully seated, providing an unambiguous visual confirmation of complete insertion.
At 190mm in length, the Ai1600TS is substantially longer than the ATX design guide's recommendation and will not fit in compact enclosures. Case compatibility should be verified before purchase. The chassis carries a satin black paint finish that is applied evenly across all surfaces with no visible inconsistencies or runs.
