Disney+ loses Google Cast support in some countries
Yet another patent dispute with Disney+ is causing the app to lose Google Cast support in select countries.
Disney has been battling, and losing, in a patent battle with “InterDigital” in recent months. This previously caused the app to lose support for 4K HDR playback in Dolby Vision and 3D content in some regions, which has come and gone in the time since.
The latest impact is around Google Cast functionality, which is actively being disabled in some regions. BroadcastNow and T3N reported on the dispute, which has led to an injunction against Disney+ in Germany and The Netherlands. While Disney can (and almost certainly will) appeal, the app is currently barred from supporting Cast in these regions.
