'Fantastic' moment blind veteran, 95, drives again after giving up licence
Behind the wheel at 90mph without a licence... or sight
A 95 year-old veteran has spoken of his joy at driving again, five years after he was registered blind and had to give up his licence.
Jim Alison, from Abergavenny, raced around Llandow Circuit in the Vale of the Glamorgan as part of a charity event which helps people with disabilities to experience driving.
"I think I managed to get to 90 km/ph (55mph)," said Jim, a former chauffeur, who drove alongside an instructor with dual controls.
"You put your life in their hands and it was absolutely fantastic," added Jim, who served with the Royal Engineers for 22 years before becoming a driver in London.

"They let me take over for a while going down the straight because, being sight impaired, I couldn't see the bends. "
He said he never thought he would be able to drive again after his eyesight deteriorated due to macular degeneration.
Jim was part of a group from Blind Veterans UK who took part in the Speed of Sight event at the circuit near Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan.
The event allows people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the thrill of driving.
