WhatsApp doubles music clip length for status updates
Users who post status updates on WhatsApp can now publish longer music clips, with the length limit doubled to 30 seconds. Here are the details.
WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is rolling out support for music clips up to 30 seconds long in status updates.
Status updates are WhatsApp’s equivalent to Instagram Stories, and previously, posts containing music were limited to 15 seconds.
Now, users can select up to 30 seconds of a song to publish alongside a photo or share a music clip directly as a status update.
Here’s WABetaInfo on how to choose the music clip duration under the new 30-second limit:
After selecting a song from the music catalog, users can now see a clip duration picker in the music editor. The picker shows multiple options, up to 30 seconds. In this screen, users can scroll through them to select how many seconds of the song they want to include in the status. Although the maximum duration is 30 seconds, users can also choose a shorter clip if they prefer. Once they choose its duration, WhatsApp adds the music to the status update.
As is usually the case with WhatsApp’s server-side rollouts of new features, the new 30-second limit is still not available to everyone. However, WABetaInfo notes that some users on both iOS and Android are already seeing the new length limit. On iOS, the site lists WhatsApp version 26.35.72 as a compatible update.
