Apple releases iOS 27 RC ahead of public launch
Apple has released the first iOS 27 release candidate for testing. The update brings Apple’s next major iPhone software release one step closer to public launch, with Siri AI leading the list of changes.
Following a summer of testing, Apple is now preparing the software for release to everyone.
This is the version Apple intends to ship publicly if testing doesn’t uncover any issues that require another build. Apple can release additional RC versions before the final rollout.
Developers can download the update through Settings > General > Software Update. If you’re already running the iOS 27 developer beta, check there for today’s release.
The biggest part of iOS 27 is Siri AI, Apple’s revamped assistant with more conversational responses, personal context, on-screen awareness, and expanded actions in apps.
Apple also introduced a dedicated Siri app for returning to previous conversations, a new interface centered on the Dynamic Island, and a Siri mode in Camera that brings Visual Intelligence into the experience.
Beyond Siri, Apple has announced AI features across Photos, Safari, Mail, Messages, Shortcuts, and other apps.
iOS 27 also builds on last year’s Liquid Glass redesign with additional customization, including a transparency slider.
Other changes include keywords and star ratings in Photos, customizable slideshows, Dual Capture in FaceTime, custom EQ for AirPods, and easier card switching with Apple Pay.
Apple has also focused on performance, with improvements planned for app launches, Photos loading, AirDrop transfers, and switching between Wi-Fi and cellular connections.
