Apple Wallet driver’s licenses coming to three new states soon
Apple Wallet driver’s licenses recently launched in Virginia and Oklahoma, but three more states are expected to follow soon, bringing us close to 20 US states on board.
Digital IDs are becoming far more common than they were when Apple first added support in the Wallet app back in 2021. And today, 16 US states plus Puerto Rico support the feature on iPhone.
The latest additions, Virginia and Oklahoma, debuted just in the last month.
And it looks like three more states will be coming soon:
This summer evidence was discovered of both Utah and Virginia being added to Apple’s backend for driver’s license support. Virginia has since gone live, so it’s expected that Utah will launch as one of the next supported states.
Kentucky previously announced it will support Apple Wallet driver’s licenses after upgrading its digital ID system this summer. All indications are that the upgrade has been completed, so based on the state’s original plans, we should see licenses in Apple Wallet soon.
North Carolina recently announced the launch of its new digital driver’s license system. As part of the announcement, it confirmed licenses will be supported in Apple Wallet by early 2027.
Additional states might always surprise us and launch in Wallet before Utah, Kentucky, or North Carolina. We’ve seen a clear acceleration of states signing on to offer Wallet driver’s licenses.
But for now at least, the three states above appear the strongest candidates to debut soon.
