The ultra-pocketable ‘Picco’ e-reader from Boox is now up for pre-order, $99
The tiny e-reader form factor is starting to make a big splash as the company behind some of the best Android e-readers announces its own version Boox calls the “Picco,” now available to pre-order.
The Boox Picco has really only been teased here and there. We got a preview at IFA 2026, but we didn’t get to dive in as much as we wanted. The unit was still pre-production and in need of various refinements. Still, Boox has been in this game for a while, so we expect a good experience.
Today, Boox announced that Picco is now available for pre-order on its website. It starts at $99, but the website lists it at $109 for those purchasing from the US warehouse.
The Picco’s black-and-white display comes in at just 3.97 inches, and even still, it offers a front light for day and night reading sessions. It weighs just 58 grams, and even though Boox doesn’t list the device’s thickness in the press release, our own hands-on would tell us the tiny e-reader is plenty thin.
It will still add a little bulk to your phone if you choose to attach it with magnets. While it isn’t magnetic by itself, the Boox Picco comes with a case that makes it possible. It’s one of the most demanded features for the tiny e-readers that have already been released, because it adds a second screen without the doomscrolling and eye strain.
Another great detail to point out during the pre-order phase is that the Boox Picco doesn’t run Android, which we covered previously. This means access to third-party apps from the Google Play Store isn’t available. Still, a simple experience will allow users to transfer files with a companion app if you don’t want to use the SD card slot to manually move ePUB files.
Boox’s adorable little Picco is expected to ship out around October for those who pre-order.
