You should pick up this $850 Pixel 10 Pro XL over its $1,300 sequel
Whether you’re in need of a new phone or you’re trying to get some early Christmas shopping out of the way, Amazon has a killer deal on a Pixel 10 Pro XL that might make you forget all about RAMageddon.
It’s no secret that consumer tech prices are continuing to balloon in the face of AI-driven RAM shortages, which makes any deal on last-gen tech always worth considering. It says a lot that, even removed from that context, this $850 Pixel 10 Pro XL in Moonstone remains an all-around great deal, saving you a whopping $450 over its successor without much in the way of meaningful sacrifices. In fact, considering the 256GB variant actually has more RAM than this year’s base Pro XL model, you might come out ahead in the long run.
Still, it’s worth breaking some of those sacrifices down. In addition to the obvious downside of losing a year’s worth of software upgrades — since we’re a full 12 months further along the Pixel 10’s seven-year lifecycle — you’ll have to be willing to lose a handful of changes on both the hardware and software fronts. Other hardware changes include a Tensor G5 over the G6, a slightly dimmer display, a smaller telephoto sensor, and, of course, the lack of everybody’s favorite underbaked Google feature, HiLight.
On the software side, Camera Looks is the big missing tool, with no plans to bring my favorite Pixel camera feature to previous generations on the horizon. However, I wouldn’t say Camera Looks is worth the extra $450, especially when Camera Looks being backported certainly remains a possibility in play. The same goes for Google’s typical slate of AI features; tools like Rambler remain Pixel 11-exclusive for now, but considering third-party developers have already made their own moves in this regard, I would expect to see an improved take on the company’s latest voice-to-text model show up sooner rather than later.
Don’t sleep on this deal; we’ve already seen a $700 sale price for the smaller Pixel 10 Pro in 256GB sell out (though the 128GB model is still available for $750). If you’re looking for a new phone to help you weather RAMageddon — and you don’t want to break the bank to buy it — this Pixel 10 Pro XL might be your best hope.
