It has been drawn to our attention that some statements in the initially published version of this article could be interpreted as supporting a direct mechanistic role for ZNF695 in L1 regulation. As there was no experimental evidence for such a role, the article has been corrected.
Specifically, several statements implying direct regulation of L1 activity by ZNF695/KRAB-ZFP have been revised in the abstract, Results and Discussion to reflect associations rather than regulatory relationships. Extended Data Fig. 10 and Supplementary Fig. 36 and their associated text, including mention of the dominant-negative effects, have been removed. An incorrect statement based on KRABopedia data has been deleted from the Methods section, and the related term “ZNF695 target genes” was replaced with the more accurate term “ZNF695 protein interactors.” For comparison, the original, unedited article is available as Supplementary information accompanying this amendment.
These corrections do not affect any primary genomic analyses or the main conclusions of the study.
Supplementary information is available in the online version of this amendment.
