Correction to: Nature https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-025-08658-z Published online 12 March 2025
In the version of the article initially published, the authors erroneously used \({F}_{{\rm{s}}}=\frac{{E}_{{\rm{s}}}\pi {r}^{2}}{4{L}_{0}}\) to normalise F1rod in calculation instead of \({F}_{{\rm{s}}}=\frac{{E}_{{\rm{s}}}\pi {r}^{2}}{4{L}_{0}^{2}}\). This affected the y-axes of Fig. 2a,c, Extended Data Figs. 2a, 3b, 4a, 5a and 7c. In the “Buckling of chiral and non-chiral rods” section, it also affected a numerical value in the sentence now reading “Here, the same chiral rod with R = 6 mm and α0 = 5° gives max(F1rod/Fs) = 24,” where 24 appeared originally as “0.8”. The axes of Fig. 2a,c, Extended Data Figs. 2a, 3b, 4a, 5a and 7c, as well as the numerical value above, have now been multiplied by 30 and updated. In addition, in the Methods, the expression for Δout was erroneously typed as \({\varDelta }_{{\rm{out}}}={\pi }^{4}{a}_{{\rm{out}}}^{2}/4{L}_{{\rm{s}}}\); the correct expression is \({\varDelta }_{{\rm{out}}}={\pi }^{2}{a}_{{\rm{out}}}^{2}/4{L}_{{\rm{s}}}\). The two corrections do not affect the analyses and conclusions of the article. The text and figures have been updated in the HTML and PDF versions of the article.
