Police searching for mum of baby girl found on shoreline tell her not to be afraid to call
North Wales Police appealed directly to the mother to make contact with them
Police searching for the mother of a newborn baby girl whose body was found on a north Wales shoreline have set up a special phone line, urging her to contact them.
A member of the public found the body on the Menai Strait shoreline near Siliwen Road in Bangor, Gwynedd, on Sunday shortly before 17:00 BST.
In an update on Thursday, North Wales Police said a post-mortem examination revealed the newborn was a girl, adding that she may have been in the water for up to a few weeks.
Supt Llinos Davies from North Wales Police said a specialist would take a call from the woman directly and could support her confidentially and told the woman not to be afraid to speak to the police.
"We understand that you may be scared to come forward, but we urge you to contact us," Davies said.
"I want to reassure you that your welfare and safety continues to be our priority and utmost concern and that you receive any medical attention and support you may need.
"Whatever has happened, you do not have to face this on your own," she added.
The director of midwifery and women's services for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Fiona Giraud last week also appealed directly to the mother to come forward.
