Ghost Of Tsushima Anime Taps Star Wars: Visions Talent For Its 2028 Release
The upcoming anime adaptation of Sony's Ghost of Tsushima just took another big step forward, with Crunchyroll revealing more details on the cast and crew attached to the project, as well as a 2028 release window.
While details are still light on what the story will be, Hayate Inc. did confirm that actors Mayumi Saco and Shinya Fukumatsu will voice characters. Saco had previously voiced Tomoe in Ghost of Tsushima, a master archer and pupil of the renowned Sensei Ishikawa, while Fukumatsu lent his vocal talents to One-Punch Man, playing the martial arts master Bomb.
For the crew working behind the scenes on this production, there's some big talent attached. Takanobu Mizuno (Star Wars: Visions "The Duel") will direct the anime, and it'll be produced at animation studio Kamikaze Douga (Batman: Ninja, Star Wars: Visions shorts). For the story, that's being handled by Gen Urobuchi (Psycho-Pass) and Renji Oki (Azur Lane). Rounding out key roles, there's also Keiji Inai as the anime's music composer, Yoshikazu Iwanami handles sound direction, and Gyousyou Suzuki brings their talent for calligraphy to the project.
As for the source material video games, Ghost of Tsushima first hit the scene in 2020 for the PS4, and was later upgraded for PS5.
Its sequel, Ghost of Yotei, launched in 2025 and also received a "Complete Edition" upgrade that adds the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion and bundles in the Legends multiplayer mode.
Anime adaptations of video games are on the rise, as multiple other projects are in various stages of development currently. From Software's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Bloodborne are getting the anime treatment, and the world of Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding is expanding with an anime film and a separate anime series that's on its way to Disney+.
