PS5 Finally Gets Really Cool-Looking Translucent Controllers And Console Covers
It’s time to party like it’s 1999 again because another major console maker is rolling out translucent accessories. Sony has revealed its new Prism Collection that includes see-through green, red, and blue designs for PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers and console plates.
And because marketing folks just can’t help themselves, they all have unique names like “Flare Orange,” “Emerald Green,” and “Graphite Gray.” Yes, Sony is calling that last one gray, but there are clear blueish highlights to it. The controllers will be $85 each and the console covers will be $75.
You can begin pre-ordering both directly from the PlayStation Store on November 10 (10 a.m. local time), but orders won’t actually ship out until February 4, 2027.
And yes, Sony knows this is overdue. “We know how much our fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers,” designer Leo Cardoso said on the PlayStation Blog. “We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late ’90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5’s industrial design.”
Fellow designer Satoshi Aoyagi shared further insights:
The high-gloss clear finish extends across the back of the controller, offering a look at the technology that powers the DualSense controller while maintaining a sleek, monochromatic look.
The metallic finish on the middle cover brings the contrasting surfaces together for a premium appearance that feels consistent with the PS5 generation.
To complement the futuristic aesthetic, we carefully selected three distinct colors: a vibrant orange that subtly takes on a rosy hue where the transparent material overlaps, a deep hunter green that gains depth through its transparency, and a cool-toned storm gray.
The Prism Collection follows a series of translucent controller options for Xbox, as well as the X25 anniversary console that comes in OG green. Retro consoles like the Analogue 3D and Mod Retro have also gone translucent. See-through plastic makes everything better.
