Apple confirms HomePod mini 2 won’t have Siri AI at launch
Today Apple introduced HomePod mini 2 with Siri AI as a major tentpole feature. HomePod mini 2 ships on October 30, but checking the fine print on Apple’s website, it seems Siri AI won’t be available on launch day.
HomePod users have been waiting for Apple to reveal when Siri AI is coming to its home devices. And today it became official: Siri AI will be available soon on the new HomePod mini 2.
But unfortunately, if you buy HomePod mini 2 for launch day delivery on October 30, you’ll be left waiting a bit longer to access Siri AI.
From Apple’s website, in the ‘Meet Siri AI’ section for HomePod mini 2:
Siri on HomePod mini 2 puts a powerful, AI assistant right at the center of your home.1 Once set up with your iPhone or iPad, Siri draws on broad world knowledge and your personal context to help you find what you need and get more done every day.
Enjoy more natural conversations, richer answers, and effortless smart home control — while your privacy is protected at every step. Just ask to play your favorite music, check your schedule, or catch up on podcasts, completely hands-free.
1 Coming in a future software update. Usage limits may apply.
The footnote above says that Siri AI won’t be arriving until a future software update. This is further confirmed in Apple’s press release here near the bottom.
HomePod mini 2 arrives two weeks ahead of HomeView and the new Apple TV 4K, both of which ship November 13. Each of those products support Siri AI at launch, so here’s hoping that means HomePod mini 2 will gain support by mid-November too.
If that’s the case though, it’s certainly curious why Apple wouldn’t just launch all three products the same day with Siri AI.
