Molecular underpinnings of rheumatic diseases and emerging therapeutic concepts
Nature
volume 658, pages 1141–1152 (2026) Cite this article
Inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus represent chronic inflammatory disorders that are caused by dysregulation of innate and adaptive immune responses. Here we review current advances in our understanding of the molecular underpinnings of these diseases and discuss consequences with respect to emerging targets and treatment strategies, which are increasingly enabling more robust disease control and the first prospects of a cure for previously chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases.
