The Papers: 'PM lets down the King' and 'Kenny's secret night at Maya's'
Warning: Sunday's paper review contains spoilers for The Celebrity Traitors.
Several Sunday papers are running with stories following Prime Minster Andy Burnham's comments that he was open to discussions around the UK formally apologising for its role in the transatlantic slave trade. The Sunday Express headlines with "PM 'lets down the King' over slavery apology" and says Burnham has been "accused of 'irresponsible' blunder" as King Charles III tours the Caribbean.
In its front page take of the slavery apology fallout, the Mail angles its lead piece on Burnham's "slave trade pledge" sparking a "new reparations row" for the King. The prime minister's comments have "thrown into confusion" the King's tour of the Caribbean, the paper says.
The Sunday People headlines with "Charles under pressure". Under a picture of the King on the front page, the paper says he is "facing increasing demands for slavery apology".
The "Heat on Charles over slavery row" features on the front of the Sunday Mirror, but its main story is about a warning of "cosmetic surgery firm upselling risky operations abroad".
The main headline on the Sunday Telegraph is Chancellor John Healey's "£49bn black hole" in finances. Next to that story is a smaller piece under the headline "King stands his ground on 'sorrow' for slavery".
The Sunday Times also carries a front page write saying the King "will follow Burnham by addressing slavery 'with sincere sorrow'". The main headline is about former Chancellor Rachel Reeves saying "Britain's future lies inside the EU".
"Support for return to EU grows after Burnham shift" is splashed across the front of the Independent. The paper says an exclusive poll "reveals more voters back rejoining since PM opened door to reversing Brexit".
Veering away from politics, the Daily Star devotes its front page to a story that leads with "Jamie Carragher has apologised for 'clumsy language' after the owners threatened legal action". It comes after Carragher "had suggested Unal Emery could leave for Man United if under-fire Michael Carrick is sacked".
The Sun on Sunday goes all in with a front page about "Kenny's secret nights at Maya's". According to the paper, Celebrity Traitors star "King Kenny spent two secret nights at Maya Jama's £1.5 million flat". It says the YouTuber "was seen leaving her London home on Friday".
