007 First Light Delayed On Switch 2 Again, Will Now Arrive Almost A Year Late
Once upon a time, 007 First Light was supposed to ship on Switch 2 alongside other platforms back in May. Then it was delayed to the third quarter of 2026. Now it’s not coming until March 2027. IO Interactive says the port of its hit James Bond game needs more polish.
“Today we would like to provide an update on the Nintendo Switch 2 release of 007 First Light,” the developer tweeted on September 15. “We know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond’s reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm.”
It continued, “To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game. We were thrilled by the positive feedback on 007 First Light at Gamescom, and it’s a great sign of the progress being made across the whole game as we head toward launch.”

Hands-on impressions with a demo build coming out of last month’s gaming convention were generally positive, though some people did wonder how the sections of 007 First Light depicting bigger crowds of people and more complicated levels would fare on Nintendo’s weaker gaming device. And the fallout among some Switch 2 owners over another big delay has not been great.
007 First Light was one of the first major Switch 2 ports confirmed for the console, and has been frequently spotlighted during Nintendo Directs. Here’s what IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak said about the port earlier in the year: “It’s running on the Switch 2. We just want to make sure it’s good as it can be. I don’t want to hear it wasn’t a good version.”
He continued, “To be completely honest, we need a bit more time to get it where we want it to be. We said summer. It’s probably going be late summer. But we’re going to get it out. Bond has a special place on Nintendo. And I promise I will do everything I can, and I can do quite a lot being the CEO, to get that in a great shape.”
