Grab The Sci-Fi Classic That Inspired BioShock For Free This Weekend
Need a great new game to play this weekend? Don’t want to spend any extra money? Have a PC with a DirectX 11–compatible GPU? Than you should pick up System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster.
It’s the latest game that the Epic Games Store is giving away for free. You can grab the sci-fi classic, which is normally $30, from now until October 8 for no cost. All you need to do is download the Fortnite maker’s storefront.
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster arrived in the summer of 2025 after a six-year wait. Many consider it the definitive edition of the original 1999 survival horror RPG. It’s about a solider with amnesia who awakens aboard a spaceship called the Von Braun where the rest of the crew is infected by a weird virus and an AI called SHODAN has gone rogue.
It builds on a lot on the mechanics from the original System Shock and pushes the formula away from an emphasis on action and toward an even moodier mix of immersive sim elements. You should play both games, especially if you like BioShock, their spiritual successor.
