The MacBook Air Drops to Its Lowest Price Since June for Prime Day
A number of MacBooks are on sale as part of Amazon's Prime Day sale this fall, but the M5 MacBook Air is the clear winner in terms of discounts. It's selling for $1,099 on Amazon, which is $200 off the normal starting price of $1,299. This configuration comes with 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage, and a 13.6-inch screen. If you need more memory or storage, higher configurations also have $200 off—including the 15-inch model.
This is the best price I've seen on the MacBook Air since the beginning of the summer, when Apple introduced its $200 price increase. This sale effectively undoes that increase, which is heartening in a time of seemingly endless price hikes across the tech industry. It also makes the MacBook Air hard to beat for overall laptop deals. It's already my favorite laptop, and the one I think most people should buy. And for the discounted price of $1,099, it's an even more obvious buy.
Of course, that's still more expensive than the laptop was in the first half of 2026, when it frequently dipped below $1,000 on discount. And let's not forget: You could have bought it for $749 during Prime Day in 2025. But those prices aren't coming back anytime soon, so let's not dwell on that; instead, this is the best price on a MacBook Air you'll probably get in a while.
I wouldn't buy the other MacBooks on offer right now—at least, not because of their discounts. The MacBook Neo is “on sale” for $10 off, though it's been at that price for many months. Read my full breakdown of how the MacBook Neo compares to the MacBook Air in performance and features.
The MacBook Pro isn't on a noteworthy sale this week either and still reflects the sky-high prices since Apple's June increase. Additionally, reports as recent as this week point to an updated MacBook Pro coming later this year, perhaps even in October. This is the anticipated OLED model that has been in the works for years, which would introduce a proper touchscreen to the Mac for the first time. It's worth waiting to see what happens with this new model before buying the older one.
So, if you want a MacBook deal, stick with the M5 MacBook Air. Older models are still floating around, like the M4, but there are no solid discounts that would make me recommend them over the latest version.
