Six Ukrainian energy sites hit by Russia since Trump announced ceasefire, Zelensky says
Emergency services responded to a Russian drone strike on a residential building in Kharkiv, north-eastern Ukraine on Monday
Russia struck six Ukrainian energy facilities hours after US President Donald Trump announced the two countries had agreed to an energy ceasefire, Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
Despite Trump stating on Sunday the truce would be "effective immediately", the Ukrainian president said Russia had hit "our gas stations, energy infrastructure, and other facilities".
There were blackouts in the city of Izyum after a Russian strike destroyed power grids, Ukraine's state news agency Ukrinform said, while energy and railway infrastructure in western Ukraine was also targeted overnight.
On Monday, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Ukraine does not deserve the "respite" a ceasefire would bring.
Zelensky backs Trump's 'energy ceasefire' but says Russia continues to hit power plants
Zelensky said 33 people had been injured in the strikes on energy facilities across the country.
He told Fox News: "We did not attack, while Russia attacked our gas stations, energy infrastructure, and other facilities."
"I think it was Putin's answer to President Trump," he added.
Global conflicts have pushed fuel prices higher ahead of the US midterm elections and on Friday Trump announced a plan to import Russian diesel into the US on Friday.
