Google rolling out Universal Cart that lets you shop the web and find deals with Gemini, Search
Following its announcement at Google I/O earlier this year, Google’s new Universal Cart is now rolling out in the US, giving you the ability to shop the web and watch for deals using Search, Gemini, and more.
Universal Cart is designed to be an “intelligent” cart that works across more than just a single retailer. Through Google products such as Search and Gemini, you can save products to the cart and also pull in promo codes and monitor for deals for items in the cart.
The cart puts you in control, helping to organize your shopping, keep track of items you love from across retailers, stay on top of promos, and enjoy effortless checkout powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). Today, Universal Cart is rolling out in the U.S. across Google Search and in the Gemini app.
The core pitch here is the ability to add items to the Universal Cart through various touchpoints in Google services. Through Search and AI Mode, you can save shopping items to the cart, or you can do it through the Gemini app and conversations with the AI. Multiple retailers can have products in the cart with Google then linking to those retailers for eventual checkout.
While items are in the cart, Google will monitor for deals and price changes, alerting you if the price drops.
Similarly, Universal Cart can find “hidden” deals such as promo codes or even offers on your credit card such as cashback, helping you to change payment methods if there’s a way to score a better deal.
Google says this is powered by Wallet and that it “understands your card perks and can intelligently help you choose between payment methods.”
This is US-only for now, and comes just ahead of the busy holiday shopping season.
