Arrests and injuries amid anti-immigration disorder
Norfolk Police attended unrest at three addresses in Thetford on Tuesday and the disorder continued the following night
Two police officers have been injured after a second night of disorder in a market town which has seen anti-immigration protests.
Norfolk Police said "significant police resources" were deployed to Thetford on Wednesday to maintain public safety, after a large group gathered on Clover Way.
The force said members of the group "became physically aggressive towards officers – a male officer was struck with a rock and a female officer was seriously bitten, breaking the skin."
Assistant chief constable Julie Dean said: "We will not stand by and allow violence to take place, whether that is directed towards members of the public, local residents or police officers carrying out their duties."
The scenes followed unrest on Tuesday in St John's Way, Bracken Road and Elm Road, when properties were damaged with windows smashed and fences broken, and people attempted to break into a residential property, police said.
The Labour MP for South West Norfolk, Terry Jermy, said the "ugly scenes in Thetford over the past few days have been difficult to watch and are deeply concerning".
A large group stormed three properties including this one on Bracken Road, amid fears they were being used to house asylum seekers
A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence on Wednesday afternoon following Tuesday's disorder. He was released and issued with a conditional caution.
In the early hours of Thursday, two further arrests were made following Wednesday's unrest.
