Heatwaves in June and July showed that disruptions to food systems do not always begin at farms. In France, mass mortality of poultry overwhelmed carcass collection and disposal services. Refrigeration failures in UK supermarkets disrupted the availability of chilled and frozen food. The most acute pressures caused by heatwaves were in livestock housing, refrigeration and waste management.
