XREAL teases the price of its Android XR glasses as early-bird deal sells out
XREAL Aura, the company’s first pair of Android XR-based glasses, are set to officially get a price point soon as the first sales figures have come in, and it’s pretty popular so far.
Taking a step back, XREAL Aura are Android XR-based glasses with a display. Unlike the smaller glasses expected to start showing up next year, Aura has built-in displays and somewhat mimics the functionality of a VR headset, just in a much smaller form factor. Unlike previous XREAL glasses, Aura includes a control puck that houses the components needed to run Android XR.
XREAL has confirmed today that it has surpassed 10,000 reservations for Aura since June – probably not bad given we don’t even know how much this hardware will cost outside of that it will be “under $1,500.” The company calls this an “exciting signal” of demand for Aura.
This also comes as the early bird reservation deal has ended. Initially, interested buyers could deposit $99 to get a $199 credit when orders actually opened. That’s now gone, the company says, but $199 deposits remain available on XREAL’s website.
XREAL also mentions that it will “share more on pricing and availability soon,” still saying on its website that the price will be “under $1,500 before tax.” That’s slightly updated, as far as we can tell, with the page originally saying XREAL Aura’s price “will not exceed US$1,500, excluding applicable taxes.” More or less the same message, though.
